Tuition fees 

for International Students and Second Degrees in Baden-W眉rttemberg
Since the 2017/2018 winter semester, tuition fees have been charged in Baden-W眉rttemberg for international students and for second degree programmes.
 
  • International students travelling from outside the EU for the purpose of studying must pay a tuition fee of EUR 1,500 per semester.
  • Students taking up a second or further degree programme (second degree) must pay EUR 650 per semester. 
     
The legal basis for tuition fees is the federal state act on tuition fees Landeshochschulgeb眉hrengesetz () (only available in German).

Information for all fee-paying students at 午夜探花

 
  • The notification of fees that you received at the time of admission or enrolment is valid for your entire studies at 午夜探花.
  • The semester fee must be paid in addition.
  • The of the University of Ulm contains all information about your tuition fees and contributions for the respective semester.
  • Please observe the re-registration deadlines: 10 February for the summer semester and 10 August for the winter semester.
  • Please note the specified deadline: You must submit the application for exemption from tuition fees to us before the start of the lecture period!

From summer semester 2025, second degree tuition fees for teacher training programmes in Baden-W眉rttemberg will no longer apply

At the end of last year, the state of Baden-W眉rttemberg amended the Landeshochschulgeb眉hrengesetz (federal state act on tuition fees in higher education) to the effect that no second degree fees will be payable if a teacher training programme is started as a second degree. This also applies to students who are already studying for a teaching degree as a second degree.

The amendment will be implemented from summer semester 2025; this means that students will only have to pay the semester fee for re-registration if they are studying for a teaching degree as a second degree programme.

The tuition fee for the winter semester 2024/2025 must be transferred to the account of 午夜探花, stating the reference. You will find the reference directly after logging in to the campus portal.

Deadline: February 10

For international students: tuition fee 1,500 EUR

For second degree students: tuition fee 650 EUR

Tuition fees for international students (non-EU nationals)

All international students who are not citizens of a member state of the European Union (EU) or another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area (EEA: Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) (third-country nationals who come to Germany for the purpose of studying) must pay tuition fees. 

Normally, these students have a residence permit in accordance with .

Applicants and students will receive a notification of fees from 午夜探花.
 
Applying for an exception: In order to be excepted from the obligation to pay fees, you must complete the information form and submit it to us with all the necessary evidence or supporting documents. You can see whether an exception applies to you on the information form (on the right-hand side under Downloads).
 
Exemption from tuition fees: In order to be exempted from tuition fees, an application for exemption from tuition fees must be submitted. You can find this application on this website. > On the right-hand side under Downloads.
 
Please note the specified deadline: 
You must submit the application for exemption application from tuition fees to us (Abteilung Zulassung, Studiengeb眉hren) before the start of the lecture period!

Tuition fees for second degree

Applicants or students have to pay second degree tuition fees if:
 
  • a second or further bachelor's degree,
  • a second or additional master's degree
  • a second or additional state examination 
is involved.
 
Degrees obtained abroad are not considered.
 Tuition fees are not charged twice.
 
> Those who pay tuition fees for international students do not have to pay second degree tuition fees.

When you apply for admission or enrolment, you must already state whether you have completed a degree or whether you are already studying or have already studied.

This information form can also be used to apply for exemption from tuition fees if:
 
  • The second degree programme is required due to professional regulations (e.g. oral and maxillofacial surgery).
  • It is the study of a complementary subject.
The information form must be completed immediately and sent to studiengebuehren@uni-ulm.de by the deadline before the start of lectures.

After the information form has been checked, students who are liable to pay fees will receive a notification of fees.

You can apply for exemptions from the secondary degree tuition fees in the following cases
 
  • for academic leave
  • during the practical year
  • during a practical semester of study
  • for students whose disability has a significant impact on their studies
