Quality-driven System Evolution Group

The research group Quality-driven System Evolution is headed by Prof. Dr. Robert Heinrich . Members of this group investigate architecture-based approaches to modelling and analysing software-intensive systems.

Software is an essential part in various facets of our daily life. Mobility, production, energy supply, economics and infrastructure, for example, strongly depend on software which is not always of high quality. Examples of software-intensive systems from aforementioned areas are cyber-physical systems, intelligent systems, IoT systems, and other technical systems. These systems comprise besides software other disciplines, such as electronics or mechanics, and combine various paradigms, so that these systems can only be examined partially and therefore inadequately by using current modelling and analysis techniques. Critical efficiency drops or security issues can be caused by poor software quality. These can endanger the success and even existence of single organizations or entire societies.

Quality properties like security, efficiency and maintainability depend heavily on design decisions regarding the architecture of the systems. The Quality-driven System Evolution Research Group therefore investigates the architecture-based modelling and analysis of software-intensive systems as well as the interplay of architectural design and implementation to analyze quality properties throughout the entire system life-cycle.
