Besides reducing the power consumption is a robust detection of signals in the doubly spread channel, which varies in time and frequency, the main focus of wake-up and detection signals. Due to the challenging properties of the underwater channel, like the multipath propagation and the Doppler effects, correlation-based methods with fixed sequences only lead to the desired success under good to perfect conditions without signal-, symbol- and timing-reconstruction. This work presents a Kasami-based approach for reducing the overhead using a cross-layer adapted frame structure for the RTS/CTS hand-shaking protocol. It reduces the power consumption up to 88.3 {\%} with an increased payload of 3.8 {\%}, a possible collision detection till -4 dB, a supported relative speed of +/-20 m/s with a detection and decoding rate of up to 100 {\%} using Kasami code-based sequences, related to predefined IDs and frame types for optimized cross-layer functionality of the handshake-based MAC protocol.}, year = {2022}, isbn = {9781450395625}, DOI = {10.1145/3491315.3491319}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Underwater Networks \\& Systems}, publisher = {Association for Computing Machinery}, address = {New York, NY, USA}, series = {WUWNet '21}, keywords = {Kasami sequences, MAC-protocol, RTS/CTS hand-shaking, communication, cross-layer-communication, power consumption}, file_url = {https://doi.org/10.1145/3491315.3491319} } @Inproceedings { 9389139, author = {Rie\"{s}, Marcel and Slomka, Frank}, title = {Ambient noise in acoustic underwater communication modeling and analysis}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1109/IEEECONF38699.2020.9389139}, booktitle = {Global Oceans 2020: Singapore – U.S. Gulf Coast}, pages = {1-6}, keywords = {Underwater communication;Phase shift keying;Analytical models;Modems;Mathematical model;Underwater acoustics;Signal to noise ratio} } @Inproceedings { daun2020online, author = {Daun, Marian and Brings, Jennifer and Obe, Patricia Aluko and Pohl, Klaus and Moser, Steffen and Schumacher, Hermann and Rie\"{s}, Marcel}, title = {An Online Course for Teaching Model-based Engineering.}, year = {2020}, booktitle = {SEUH}, pages = {66--67} } @Inproceedings { 9389021, author = {Rie\"{s}, Marcel and Richthammer, Valentina and Gla\"{s}, Michael and Slomka, Frank}, title = {Analysis-space-reduction for automated modem optimization in underwater communication}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.1109/IEEECONF38699.2020.9389021}, booktitle = {Global Oceans 2020: Singapore – U.S. Gulf Coast}, pages = {1-8}, keywords = {Analytical models;Underwater communication;Transmitters;Transfer functions;Modems;Optimization;Standards} } @Inproceedings { 9116508, author = {Richthammer, Valentina and Rie\"{s}, Marcel and Bestler, Julian and Slomka, Frank and Gla\"{s}, Michael}, title = {Design Space Exploration for Model-based Communication Systems}, year = {2020}, DOI = {10.23919/DATE48585.2020.9116508}, booktitle = {2020 Design, Automation \\& Test in Europe Conference \\& Exhibition (DATE)}, pages = {556-561}, keywords = {Modems;Optimization;Communication channels;Encoding;Frequency shift keying;Analytical models;design automation;model-based design} } @Inproceedings { riess2020erweiterter, author = {Rie\"{s}, Marcel and Slomka, Frank}, title = {Erweiterter modellbasierten Entwurf eines selektiven und konfigurierbaren Echtzeitkommunikationssystems}, year = {2020}, organization = {VDE}, booktitle = {MBMV 2020 -- Methoden und Beschreibungssprachen zur Modellierung und Verifikation von Schaltungen und Systemen - GMM/ITG/GI-Workshop}, pages = {10} } @Inproceedings { 10.1145/3366486.3366536, author = {Rie\"{s}, Marcel and Slomka, Frank}, title = {FIR-Filter: Based Ambient Noise Implementation for Acoustic Underwater Communication Analysis}, year = {2020}, isbn = {9781450377409}, DOI = {10.1145/3366486.3366536}, booktitle = {Proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Underwater Networks and Systems}, publisher = {Association for Computing Machinery}, address = {New York, NY, USA}, series = {WUWNet '19}, keywords = {FIR-filter, ambient noise, underwater acoustic channel, depth-dependent ambient noise, underwater communication}, file_url = {https://doi.org/10.1145/3366486.3366536} } @Inproceedings { 10.1145/3366486.3366537, author = {Rie\"{s}, Marcel and Slomka, Frank}, title = {Geometric Multi-path Avoiding Approach for Adaptive Acoustic Underwater Communications}, abstract = {Long multi-path delays actively interfere with the underwater communication of autonomous underwater vehicles, sensor nodes, and other things of underwater. We propose a fast adaptive and straightforward geometrical multi-path avoidance approach. We compensate for the side effect of multi-path interference and reflections with available sensor data for adaptive position and environment-specific modem settings. We show with exemplary tests via a model-based modem and 25 underwater channel scenarios that we can minimize the impact of interferences by multiple delayed data signals based on reflections.
