Repeat success for Îçҹ̽»¨: 13th place in the comparison of German universities by renowned . Recently published by the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE), the ranking lists around 1500 universities from 93 countries and ranked Îçҹ̽»¨ 140th in a worldwide comparison. The ranking evaluates five different criteria – from teaching and research to citation frequency, third-party funding from industry and the international outlook of the university.
The top places in the THE ranking traditionally go to renowned British and US universities – with the University of Oxford leading the way, followed by Stanford University and Harvard University. Best German university is LMU Munich, ranked 32nd worldwide. With its 13th place in the nationwide comparison, Îçҹ̽»¨ has outperformed several larger and older German universities – including the Universities of Stuttgart and Konstanz as well as the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
Îçҹ̽»¨ scored particularly high in the categories of third-party funds from industry and researcher citations. Scientific work coming from Ulm is exceedingly often quoted by colleagues. The ranking analysed 13.6 million research publications and more than 86 million citations from a 5-year period, based on bibliometric data provided by scientific publishing house Elsevier. In this field, Îçҹ̽»¨ achieved a remarkable 79th place worldwide.
The World University Ranking also evaluates data and information on research and teaching and on internationalisation. For this purpose, THE surveyed researchers to enquire about the reputation of the participating universities and assessed performance indicators provided by the universities. According to the magazine, the THE World University Ranking is the world's largest and most comprehensive ranking of higher education institutions. It has been published for the 17th time this year.
In the 'Golden Age' ranking, which was published at the end of June and is part of THE World University Ranking, Îçҹ̽»¨ achieved an outstanding 14th place worldwide and is listed as the second-best German university in this age group. The Golden Age Ranking assesses universities that are older than 50 and under 80 years.
