Five Ulm researchers are among the "Highly Cited Researchers"
Publication evaluation measures scientific influence

Researchers from the University of Ulm are among the most influential scientists in the world. The include the world's most cited minds in their respective fields.Professors Hartmut Döhner, Steven Jansen, Fedor Jelezko and Frank Kirchhoff, as well as Dr Dr Kelly Del Tredici, have been identified in the analysis of scientific publications.

In the publication "Highly Cited Researchers", the US database provider Clarivate lists the most cited and thus most influential researchers from 21 subject areas. The ranking is based on an evaluation of scientific publications from the last ten years that are listed in the citation index "Web of Science". The more frequently an author is cited in the specialist community, the higher the citation index. The "Highly Cited Researchers" are among the top one per cent of the most cited scientists in their research field in the respective year.

The "Highly Cited Researchers 2024" include:

New this year is the co-director of the Institute , Professor Frank Kirchhoff. The virologist is primarily concerned with the HI virus, but has also made an important contribution to corona research with his work on SARS-CoV-2.

Dr Dr Kelly Del Tredici is part of the neuroscientist couple Del Tredici-Braak. The two conducted research until their retirement in the at the Îçҹ̽»¨ Hospital for Neurology. Neurodegenerative diseases are classified using the so-called Braak stages.

Leukaemia researcher Professor Hartmut Döhner is Medical Director of the and an expert on the most common blood cancers in adults.

Professor Steven Jansen heads the Institute of Botany. The biologist's research focuses on water transport in plants and the effects of drought stress on plants.

Quantum physicist Professor Fedor Jelezko (Director of the Institute of Quantum Optics) has established a new field of research at the intersection of quantum technology and biomedicine. The aim is to use artificial nanodiamonds to improve sensors and imaging techniques.

In 2024, a total of 6,636 Highly Cited Researchers were listed by more than 1,200 institutions in 59 countries and regions. The USA leads the list with 2,507 researchers, followed by China (1,405) and the UK (563). 332 researchers are from German universities and research institutions.
